'In the Middle of Nowhere' is the story of Willow, a sixteen-year old, forced to uproot her life, with her family, and move to a barely known island off the shores of Portland, after the tragic death of Willow's father. She rebuilds her whole life again; coping with the loss of her father while trying to balance her social, academic and home life.

I have to admit, most of the events in the book were predictable. It was mainly teenager-y stuff; school, first job, driver's license, first real party, and of course, first relationship. Willow develops an interest in the mysterious boy in her class named Michael. I thought that the romance between the two was a bit awkward and could've been developed better.

Willow is a very relatable character because of the things she experience throughout the book. To be honest, I didn't really feel a connection to her. She annoyed me sometimes, with her musings, and she came off as a bit slow. I didn't feel like I knew enough about Michael [and his incurable disease to sympathize with him when he was close to death. (hide spoiler)] Also, I caught myself rolling my eyes at a lot of the things he said and did.

The book is written in Willow's perspective, in first person. The language was a bit proper, I thought, considering the point of view of the character and the setting of the book.

I honestly didn't find anything that special with this book. I wouldn't really recommend this book to anyone.

I would like to thank the author for sending me a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.
